Bits of Torah Truths – Yeshua used the Torah and the Prophets as Proof Texts – Episode 14
Matthew 11:13–15
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (KJV)
Yeshua used the Torah and the prophets to prove John the Baptist’s mission and identity as the forerunner of the Messiah. He quoted from the Book of Malachi, which prophesied that God would send Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord. He identified John as the Elijah who was to come and said that those who have ears should hear. He also affirmed John’s testimony about himself, that he was not the Christ, but the voice of one crying in the wilderness, “Make straight the way of the Lord,” as Isaiah the prophet had said. He praised John as more than a prophet, and as the greatest among those born of women, because he prepared the people for the coming of the kingdom of heaven.
