Bits of Torah Truths – What does it Mean to Offer Lip Service to God? – Episode 76
Isaiah 29:13–14
13 Then the Lord said,“Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,Therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; (NASB)
1 Corinthians 1:18–19
18 For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (NASB)
When we consider these two verses, there is something very important that the Lord God wants us to know. In Isaiah the prophet speaks of people who only say they love the Lord but do not live like they do. What Paul is saying in 1 Corinthians is that the Lord God will work powerfully in our lives to enable us to live our lives for him. This means that the Lord will place in our hearts the proper kavanah (intention) to live for Him. We live for Him by keeping His commands.
