1 Peter 3:15
1 Peter 3:15
3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (KJV)
Here, 1 Peter 3:15 advises believers to sanctify the Lord God in their hearts and to always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks for the reason of their hope, doing so with meekness and fear. In the Torah, there are parallels to these concepts. For example, the concept of sanctifying God in one’s heart is emphasized in various places in the Torah. Such as in Deuteronomy 6:5, it says, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” This commandment encourages believers to sanctify God in their hearts by loving Him wholeheartedly. The Torah places a strong emphasis on the importance of wisdom and understanding. In Proverbs 15:28, it says, “The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.” This suggests that a righteous person thinks carefully before speaking, which aligns with the instruction in 1 Peter 3:15 to be ready to give an answer. The Torah also emphasizes the importance of humility and reverence for God. In Proverbs 15:33, it says, “Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the LORD, and humility comes before honor.” This aligns with the instruction in 1 Peter 3:15 to give an answer with meekness and fear.
