1 Corinthians 7:18
7:18 Was any man called when he was already circumcised? He is not to become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? He is not to be circumcised. (NASB)

Paul’s statement in 1 Corinthians 7:18 advises that those who are uncircumcised should not seek circumcision in order to be converted to become a Jew for the purpose of relying on circumcision for their salvation. In the Torah, circumcision is presented as a divine covenant rather than a mere religious rite or conversion ritual. The key passage is Genesis 17:9-14, where God commands Abraham and his descendants to be circumcised as a sign of their covenant with Him. This establishes circumcision as an everlasting ordinance. However, the Torah does not mandate circumcision for conversion as a religious requirement. While Exodus 12:48 states that a foreigner who wishes to partake in the Passover must be circumcised, Paul’s teaching is coupled to the idea that circumcision (conversion) is not necessary for salvation, emphasizing that faith in God is what truly matters. This reflects passages like Deuteronomy 10:16, which speaks of “circumcising the heart.” This is how Paul and the NT taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
