The Torah contains several passages that emphasize the importance of avoiding self-deception and seeking true wisdom similar to Paul’s teaching “Let No man deceive himself” (1 Corinthians 3:18). For example, in Deuteronomy 11:16, Moses warns Israel, “Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them.” This reflects the idea in 1 Corinthians 3:18, where Paul cautions against being deceived by worldly wisdom. In addition, we read in Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” While Jeremiah is technically in the Neviim (Prophets), this verse aligns with the Torah’s repeated warnings about the dangers of self-deception and the need for divine wisdom. Note this is how Paul and the NT text teaches Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
