Bits of Torah Truths – Torah Concept in the NT: Let Every Man Abide in his Calling – Episode 503
1 Corinthians 7:17–24

1 Corinthians 7:17–24
7:17 Only, as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this manner let him walk. And so I direct in all the churches. 7:18 Was any man called when he was already circumcised? He is not to become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? He is not to be circumcised. 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but what matters is the keeping of the commandments of God. 7:20 Each man must remain in that condition in which he was called. 7:21 Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that. 7:22 For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is the Lord’s freedman; likewise he who was called while free, is Christ’s slave. 7:23 You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men. 7:24 Brethren, each one is to remain with God in that condition in which he was called. There are Torah parallels to the concept in 1 Corinthians 7:17-24, which encourages individuals to remain in the situation in which they were called. One key passage is Genesis 2:15, where God places Adam in the Garden of Eden to “work it and take care of it.” This reflects the idea that people have specific roles and responsibilities assigned to them. Another relevant passage is Exodus 31:1-6, where God calls Bezalel and Oholiab to use their skills in craftsmanship for the construction of the Tabernacle. This highlights the idea that individuals are given unique callings and should abide in them. Additionally, Numbers 18:1-7 describes the duties of the Levites and priests, emphasizing that they were chosen for specific roles and should remain faithful to their calling. This is how Paul and the NT taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
