2 Timothy 1:14
שְׁמֹר אֶת הַפִּקָּדוֹן הַטּוֹב בְּעֶזְרַת רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ הַשּׁוֹכֶנֶת בָּנוּ.
The Torah includes several passages that parallel the concept of keeping and safeguarding what has been entrusted to you, much like 2 Timothy 1:14, which urges believers to guard the good deposit entrusted to them. For example, in Deuteronomy 4:9 we read, “Only take heed to yourself, and diligently keep yourself, lest you forget the things your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. And teach them to your children and your grandchildren.” This passage emphasizes the importance of diligently remembering and preserving the teachings and experiences of God’s people and passing them on to future generations. In addition, Numbers 15:39-40, Deuteronomy 6:6-7, and 31:12-13 all speak to remembering, internalizing, safeguarding, and maintaining faithfulness through obeying God’s commands as a means for keeping the things that have been entrusted to you. These passages and more from the Torah collectively highlight the importance of remembering, teaching, and adhering to God’s commandments as a means of safeguarding the valuable truths and responsibilities entrusted to us in the Scriptures. This concept aligns well with the exhortation in 2 Timothy 1:14 to guard the good deposit, underscoring the continuous and faithful stewardship of God’s Word. This is how Paul and the NT taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
