1 Corinthians 5:11
5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler—not even to eat with such a one. (NASB)

1 Corinthians 5:11
 אֲבָל כָּתַבְתִּי לָכֶם שֶׁלֹּא לְהִתְעָרֵב עִם מִי שֶׁנִּקְרָא ״אָח״ וְהוּא זוֹנֶה אוֹ חוֹמֵד אֶת אֲשֶׁר לַזּוּלַת, אוֹ עוֹבֵד אֱלִילִים אוֹ מְגַדֵּף אוֹ סוֹבֵא אוֹ חוֹמֵס; אַף אַל תָּסֵבּוּ לֶאֱכֹל עִם אִישׁ כָּזֶה;

The concept of avoiding certain individuals who engage in unrighteous behavior, as seen in 1 Corinthians 5:11, finds parallels in the Torah’s emphasis on maintaining purity within the covenant community. For example, in Deuteronomy 7:3-4, God’s people are commanded not to intermarry with the nations around them, lest they be led astray to worship other gods. This underscores the principle of avoiding relationships that could compromise spiritual integrity and lead to moral corruption. Furthermore, Deuteronomy 13:6-11 instructs the community to deal decisively with those who entice others to idolatry, even if they are close family members or friends. The community is called to reject and distance itself from such individuals to preserve faithfulness to God. (Remember Numbers 16 and Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.) The Torah also warns against tolerating behaviors that could corrupt the community. Leviticus 20:1-5 describes how those who worship Molech are to be cut off from the people, and anyone who fails to act against them will bear guilt as well. These examples parallel Paul’s instruction in 1 Corinthians 5:11, as both emphasize the need to uphold the spiritual and moral integrity of the community. Note again this is how the NT teaches Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
