Philippians 2:29
 עַל כֵּן קַבְּלוּהוּ בָּאָדוֹן בִּמְלֹא שִׂמְחָה וְהוֹקִירוּ אֲנָשִׁים כָּאֵלֶּה,

The concept of holding the reputation of ministers, as emphasized in Philippians 2:29, finds its parallels in the Torah, particularly in the roles and responsibilities assigned to the priests and Levites. The Torah repeatedly underscores the importance of maintaining the honor and integrity of those who serve in religious capacities, ensuring they are respected and held in high esteem by the community. One significant example is found in Leviticus 21, which outlines the holiness code for the priests. The chapter emphasizes the need for priests to maintain a high standard of purity and conduct, reflecting their unique role in serving God and the community. They are instructed to avoid defilement, maintain ritual cleanliness, and uphold moral integrity. This passage highlights the community’s responsibility to support and respect the priests, recognizing their sacred duties and the importance of their reputation. Another pertinent example is in Numbers 18, where the duties and privileges of the Levites and priests are delineated. The Levites are appointed to assist the priests and are given specific responsibilities to ensure the proper functioning of the sanctuary. The chapter stresses that the priests and Levites are to be provided for through the tithes and offerings of the Israelites, ensuring they can carry out their duties without distraction or financial concern. This provision underscores the community’s obligation to honor and support their religious leaders, acknowledging their vital role in maintaining the spiritual well-being of the people. These passages collectively highlight the Torah’s emphasis on maintaining the honor, respect, and support of religious leaders, paralleling the exhortation in Philippians 2:29 to hold ministers in high regard. Notice this is how Paul was teaching Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
