Philippians 2:16

The Torah contains several passages that align with the concept of holding forth the word of life, as mentioned in Philippians 2:16. For example, in Deuteronomy 6:6-9, this passage emphasizes the importance of keeping God’s words close and sharing them with others, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” This reflects the idea of continuously holding forth and living out God’s word. Deuteronomy 30:14 highlights the accessibility and importance of God’s word saying, “No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” The proximity of God’s word to the believer encourages us to live by it and share it with others. In Exodus 19:5-6 God calls Israel to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, demonstrating the significance of sharing and living out God’s word, “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” This reflects the role of the Israelites as bearers of God’s word to the world. These passages from the Torah illustrate the timeless principle of holding forth the word of life, emphasizing the importance of living by God’s commandments, sharing them with others, and embodying them in daily life. This aligns with the teachings found in Philippians 2:16, encouraging believers to shine as lights in the world by holding firmly to the word of life. This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
