Revelation 2:25
בְּרַם הַחֲזִיקוּ בְּמַה שֶּׁיֵּשׁ לָכֶם עַד אֲשֶׁר אָבוֹא.
The exhortation in Revelation 2:25 also resonates profoundly with themes found in the Torah. The Torah emphasizes the importance of steadfastness, obedience, and holding firmly to God’s commandments in anticipation of a future Messiah (Deuteronomy 18). In the Torah, the concept of holding fast is frequently associated with unwavering commitment to God. This is how faith in the Messiah is expressed in the NT text. In Deuteronomy 10:20 the Hebrew term used for holding fast is דָּבַק which implies sticking closely, clinging, or adhering firmly. This mirrors the call in Revelation for believers to maintain a strong grip on their faith and teachings until the anticipated fulfillment—in this case, the return of Christ. Deuteronomy 13:4 also expresses the necessity of loyalty and perseverance in following God’s ways, especially amidst temptations to stray. Additional concepts are Anticipation of Fulfillment of Promises (Exodus 14:13-14), Endurance Through Trials (Deuteronomy 8:2), The Promise of God’s Presence (Deuteronomy 31:6), and Covenant Commitment (Leviticus 26:3-12). It’s fascinating to see how themes and more from the Torah continue to offer insight into concepts discussed in the NT. The call to hold fast until Messiah comes bridges the scriptures, emphasizing a continuous thread of faithfulness, obedience, and hope that transcends generations. This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
