Matthew 28:19–20
The concept of “Go teach” from Matthew 28:19-20, where Yeshua instructs his disciples to make disciples of all nations, can find a parallel in the Torah in terms of the importance of teaching and passing on God’s commandments and laws. One of the key passages related to teaching in the Torah is Deuteronomy 6:6-7, which emphasizes the importance of teaching God’s commandments to one’s children: “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” This passage highlights the duty of teaching and instilling God’s Torah and values in future generations. Another significant passage is Deuteronomy 31:12-13, where Moshe instructs the people to gather together to hear and learn the Torah, so that they may follow it and teach it to their children. While the specific context of the Great Commission in the NT focuses on spreading the teachings of Yeshua to all nations, the underlying principle of teaching and sharing God’s Torah is consistent throughout the Scriptures. The emphasis on education, transmission of faith, and living according to God’s will are common themes. This is how Yeshua taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
