1 Timothy 4:13

The Torah contains parallels to the NT concept of dedicating time to reading, exhortation, and doctrine, as mentioned in 1 Timothy 4:13. This is the concept of teaching, learning, and adherence to God’s commandments which are emphasized throughout the Torah. For example, Deuteronomy 6:6-9 underscores the importance of keeping God’s commandments at the forefront of daily life, teaching them to the next generation, and constantly meditating on them. Deuteronomy 31:12-13 emphasizes the communal aspect of learning and reading the Torah, ensuring that everyone, including future generations, understands and adheres to God’s teachings. Exodus 24:7 speaks to the commitment to obey which includes the importance of public reading and adherence to God’s Torah. We also note in Joshua 1:8 (note Joshua is technically not part of the Torah, it continues the theme) Joshua stresses the importance of continuous meditation on and adherence to God’s Torah for guidance and success. These passages from the Torah parallel the NT call to give time to reading, exhortation, and doctrine, underscoring the significance of studying, teaching, and living according to God’s commandments. Note this is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
