Hebrews 12:14
There are several parallels in the Torah to the concept of “Follow Holiness” as mentioned in Hebrews 12:14. The Torah emphasizes the importance of holiness and living a life set apart in obedience to God. Leviticus 19:2 “Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.” This verse is a direct command for the people of Israel to be holy, reflecting the nature of God Himself. It sets the standard for holiness based on God’s own holiness. Exodus 19:6 “And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.” Here, God calls the entire nation of Israel to be a holy nation and a kingdom of priests, emphasizing their distinct role and calling to live in a manner that reflects God’s holiness. Deuteronomy 7:6 “For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.” This verse reinforces the idea that the Israelites are a holy people, chosen by God to be set apart from other nations. (Other verses to look at: Leviticus 20:26, Numbers 15:40) These passages from the Torah align with the exhortation in Hebrews 12:14 to “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” The consistent message is a fundamental aspect of the believer’s relationship with God, requiring a life set apart in obedience and dedication to His will. This is how the author of Hebrews taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
