Romans 12:20

Romans 12:20
12:20 “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.” (NASB)

There is a parallel in the Torah to the concept of “feeding your enemy” found in Romans 12:20. For example, in Exodus 23:4-5, it says, “If you come across your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it. If you see the donkey of someone who hates you collapsed under its load, do not walk by. Instead, stop and help.” This commandment emphasizes kindness and compassion even towards one’s enemies, reflecting a similar principle of doing good to those who might be considered adversaries. Both passages highlight the importance of extending kindness and mercy, even to those who might not be friendly towards us. This aligns with the broader biblical theme of loving one’s enemies and acting with compassion and righteousness. This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
