Ephesians 5:28
יח אַל תִּשְׁתַּכְּרוּ מִיַּיִן, שֶׁכֵּן זֶה מֵבִיא לִידֵי פְּרִיצוּת, אֶלָּא הִמָּלְאוּ בְּרוּחַ

Ephesians 5:18
5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (KJV)

speaks of the concept of moderation in drinking wine and being filled with the spirit, as mentioned in Ephesians 5:18. In the Torah, there are instances that caution against excessive drinking. For example, Leviticus 10:9 says, “Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tent of meeting, lest ye die.” This commandment was given to Aaron and his sons, indicating the importance of sobriety during sacred duties. Another instance is in Proverbs 20:1 state, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” This verse echoes the sentiment of avoiding drunkenness and its negative consequences. Paul is teaching the importance of self-control and the dangers of excess, particularly in relation to what the Torah commands. The New Testament concept of being filled with the Spirit can be seen as an extension of these principles, focusing on a spiritual filling rather than physical intoxication. The Torah has not passed away.
