1 Peter 1:14
1 Peter 1:14
1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, (NASB)
Indeed, the Torah addresses the concept of not following former sinful ways and instead committing to a life of holiness and obedience to God’s commandments, similar to what Peter is teaching, “do not Fashion self according to former lusts” (1 Peter 1:14) For example, Leviticus 18:3-4 “You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. You shall follow my rules and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the LORD your God.” This passage instructs the Israelites to avoid the practices and behaviors of the Egyptians and Canaanites, emphasizing the need to follow God’s commandments instead of former ways. In Leviticus 20:7 we are told, “Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, for I am the LORD your God.” This verse highlights the call to holiness and the importance of consecration, which involves turning away from former sinful behaviors. (See also, Numbers 15:39-40, Deuteronomy 12:30-31) Note what Peter is teaching is consistent with the Torah context, this is how Peter taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
