Hebrews 13:9
Hebrews 13:9
13:9 Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited. (NASB)
The author of Hebrews 13:9 states Be Not Carried about with different strange doctrines. There are several passages in the Torah that emphasize the importance of adhering to the teachings and commandments given by God having a similar concept. For example, Deuteronomy 4:2 states, “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.” This verse emphasizes the importance of not altering God’s commandments. Deuteronomy 12:32 states, “What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.” Similar to Deuteronomy 4:2, this verse underscores the necessity of following God’s instructions without modification. And Deuteronomy 13:1-4 warns against following false prophets and emphasizes the importance of remaining faithful to God’s word. Similarly, Exodus 20:3 highlights the importance of exclusive devotion to God and not being led astray by other beliefs. These verses collectively illustrate not being swayed by different or strange doctrines. Note how the Torah has not passed away!
