1 Corinthians 7:23
כג בִּמְחִיר נִקְנֵיתֶם;אַל תִּשְׁתַּעְבְּדוּ לִבְנֵי אָדָם.
1 Corinthians 7:23
7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. (KJV)
Here Paul teaches on being bought for a price and so not to become slaves again. (1 Corinthians 7:23) In the Torah, there are passages that convey a similar message of belonging to God and not being enslaved by others. For example, in Leviticus 25:42 we are told that God’s people are servants to God and so should not be sold as slaves to others. In Leviticus 25:55 we find this same message being reiterated that we are God’s servants, highlighting our special relationship with Him. In Exodus 21:2 we are told that there needs to be limits on the duration of servitude because of being valued as human beings. This ensures that God’s people are not permanently enslaved. These passages from the Torah parallel the message in 1 Corinthians 7:23 by emphasizing that the people of God are His servants and should not be enslaved by others. This is how Paul was teaching Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
