Ephesians 5:18
יח אַל תִּשְׁתַּכְּרוּ מִיַּיִן, שֶׁכֵּן זֶה מֵבִיא לִידֵי פְּרִיצוּת, אֶלָּא הִמָּלְאוּ בְּרוּחַ
Ephesians 5:18
5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, (NASB)
Paul writes do not be drunk with wine in Ephesians 5:18. There are several parallels in the Torah to the concept of not being drunk with wine, for example in Leviticus 10:9 it says, “Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tent of meeting, lest ye die.” This commandment was given to Aaron and his sons, emphasizing the importance of sobriety during sacred duties. Solomon also says in Proverbs 20:1 and 23:20-21 to not drink strong drinks. These passages warn against associating with those who indulge excessively in wine and alcohol. These examples from the Torah align with the principle in Ephesians 5:18 of not being drunk with wine, emphasizing the importance of self-control and the dangers of excess. This is how Paul taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
