Matthew 23:10
י גַּם אַל תִּקָּרְאוּ ׳מוֹרֵי תּוֹרָה׳, כִּי אֶחָד הוּא הַמּוֹרֶה שֶׁלָּכֶם –– הַמָּשִׁיחַ.

Matthew 23:10
23:10 “Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ. (NASB)

The concept of not being called “Master,” as mentioned in Matthew 23:9, can indeed be found in the Torah. The Torah does not contain a direct prohibition against using the term “Master,” it does emphasize the importance of humility and the recognition of God as the ultimate teacher and authority. For example, Deuteronomy 4:2 states, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” This verse emphasizes the importance of adhering to God’s authority. We recognize that we have an authority that is higher than us, we are accountable to God in heaven! These things humble us to recognize our need for God and His Messiah! This is how Matthew was teaching Torah; the Torah has not passed away!
