Luke 6:38
6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” (NASB)

Luke 6:38
The concept of being commanded to give, as seen in Luke 6:38, has several parallels in the Torah. The Torah contains numerous instructions and principles that emphasize the importance of generosity, charity, and helping those in need. Leviticus 19:9-10 “When ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the Lord your God.” This commandment instructs landowners to leave a portion of their harvest for the poor and the stranger, emphasizing the importance of providing for those in need. Deuteronomy 15:7-8 “If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.” These verses highlight the necessity of being generous and open-handed towards those in need, encouraging the provision of sufficient help for the poor. (Other verses: Deuteronomy 15:10 and 24:19-21) These passages from the Torah align with the teaching in Luke 6:38. Both the Torah and the NT emphasize the importance of generosity, caring for the needy, and the reciprocal blessings that come from giving. This is how Yeshua taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
