1 Peter 4:1

1 Peter 4:1
4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; (KJV)
The concept of suffering because of righteousness that is mentioned in the NT text (2 Timothy 1:8 and 1 Peter 4:1) does find parallels in the Tanakh, particularly within the Torah and the writings of the prophets. In the Torah, the idea of enduring hardship for the sake of righteousness can be seen in the narratives of several figures. For instance, Joseph’s suffering and eventual rise to power in Egypt can be seen as a form of suffering for righteousness (Genesis 37-50). Additionally, Moses’ life and his challenges leading the Israelites out of Egypt reflect a journey marked by righteous suffering (Exodus and Deuteronomy). In the Tanakh, Jeremiah questions why the way of the wicked prospers and the righteous suffer (Jeremiah 12:1), and Habakkuk asks why God remains silent when the wicked devours someone more righteous (Habakkuk 1:13). The Book of Psalms also reflects on the suffering of the righteous, with King David expressing his turmoil over the prosperity of the wicked and the afflictions of the righteous (Psalms 73:12-14). These themes resonate with the messages in 2 Timothy 1:8 and 1 Peter 4:1, where suffering for the sake of righteousness is part of the life of the faithful. This is how Paul and Peter taught Torah. The Torah has not passed away!
