1 Timothy 6:17
1 Timothy 6:17
6:17 Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. (NASB)
There are parallels in the Torah to the concept of commanding the rich to be humble. (1 Timothy 6:17) The Torah emphasizes humility and the proper use of wealth in several passages: Deuteronomy 8:17-18, this passage warns against pride and reminds the Israelites that their wealth and success come from God. It says, “You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” See also Deuteronomy 15:7-8 and 17:20. These passages reflect the Torah’s emphasis on humility, especially for those who are wealthy or in positions of power, aligning with the concept mentioned in 1 Timothy 6:17. The Torah has not passed away!
