1 Timothy 6:19
יט לֶאֱצֹר לְעַצְמָם אוֹצָר טוֹב לֶעָתִיד, כְּדֵי שֶׁיַּשִּׂיגוּ אֶת הַחַיִּים הָאֲמִתִּיִּים.
1 Timothy 6:19
6:19 storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed. (NASB)
There are parallels in the Torah to the concept of laying hold of eternal life, as mentioned in 1 Timothy 6:19. For example, the Torah emphasizes that following God’s commandments leads to life. In Deuteronomy 30:19-20, it states, “I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.” The Torah frequently highlights the importance of living a righteous and just life. For example, in Deuteronomy 16:20, it says, “Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you.” In addition, the Torah teaches that loving and fearing God is essential for a fulfilling life. In Deuteronomy 10:12-13, it states, “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?” These are all examples on how Paul is teaching Torah in 1 Timothy 6:19.
