Matthew 7:5

Matthew 7:5
7:5 “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. (NASB95)

Luke 6:42

Luke 6:42
6:42 “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. (NASB95)

The concept presented in Matthew 7:5 and Luke 6:42 teaches to cast out the beam from your own eye before addressing the speck in your brother’s eye. There is a parallel in the Torah to this concept. One such parallel can be found in Leviticus 19:17 where it instructs not to hate your brother in your heart but to rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt. This passage emphasizes the importance of self-examination and addressing one’s own faults before correcting others. This Torah passage emphasizes the importance of addressing one’s own faults and maintaining a clear conscience before correcting others, similar to the teaching in Matthew 7:5 and Luke 6:42. This is how Yeshua taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
