Acts 13:40-41
Acts 13:40–41
13:40 “Therefore take heed, so that the thing spoken of in the Prophets may not come upon you: 13:41 ‘BEHOLD, YOU SCOFFERS, AND MARVEL, AND PERISH; FOR I AM ACCOMPLISHING A WORK IN YOUR DAYS, A WORK WHICH YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE, THOUGH SOMEONE SHOULD DESCRIBE IT TO YOU.’ ” (NASB)
There are several parallels in the Torah to the concept of “Beware lest you despise God and perish” as mentioned in Acts 13:40-41. Examples may be taken from Deuteronomy 8:19-20, 28:15, and Leviticus 26:1-17. Deuteronomy 8:19 speaks of not forgetting the Lord your God to follow other gods. Deuteronomy 28:15 speaks to obeying the Lord God and being careful to walk in His commands. And Leviticus 26:14-17 states if you will not listen to the Lord and come to abhor and reject God’s commands, then these things will befall you (weakness, fear, diseases, etc). Note how these passages emphasize the importance of obedience to God and the consequences of turning away from Him, which aligns with the warning given in Acts 13:40-41. This is how the book of Acts teaches Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
