1 John 3:23

1 John 3:23
3:23 This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. (NASB)

There are several parallels in the Torah to the concept of believing in God’s anointed one, as mentioned in 1 John 3:23. The key examples speak to how Israel was to believe in Moshe and the priesthood. In the Torah, faith and obedience to God are central themes. Leviticus 4:3 speaks to the anointed priest who brings a sin offering. The anointed priest is seen as a mediator between God and the people. The Torah contains prophecies and foreshadowings of the coming Messiah. For instance, in Deuteronomy 18:15-18, Moshe speaks of a future prophet like himself whom the people should listen to, and that God is going to raise up a prophet like Moses from among the Israelites. This prophet is seen as an anointed leader who will speak God’s words to the people. This is interpreted as a reference to Yeshua the Messiah, the anointed one of God. The Torah has not passed away!
