1 Peter 4:7
ז הִנֵּה קֵץ הַכֹּל קָרֵב. עַל כֵּן הֱיוּ מְפֻכָּחִים, וֶהֱיוּ עֵרִים לְהִתְפַּלֵּל.
1 Peter 4:7
4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. (KJV)
Here Peter commands us to be sober and pray in 1 Peter 4:7. It is important to note how The Shema instructs us according to Deuteronomy 6:6–7 to keep God’s commandments in our hearts and minds saying, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” This emphasizes attentiveness and sobriety in understanding and applying God’s teachings. Concerning prayer, in Exodus 12:42, the during the Passover night, we are called to be spiritually vigilant, waiting for God’s guidance and redemption and to pray. Prayer is our communication with the Lord, expressing our dependence and seeking His will. The Torah has not passed away.
