1 Peter 1:13
1 Peter 1:13
1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (KJV)
Here in 1 Peter 1:13 we are Commanded to gird your loins, be sober, and have hope. While the exact phrase “be sober” doesn’t occur in the Torah, the concept of mental preparedness and vigilance is present which are related. For example, Job 38:3 uses a similar expression when God tells Job to “gird up your loins like a man.” This conveys a call to face challenges courageously. In the Torah, believers are encouraged to engage their minds with truth, be prepared for action, and maintain alertness. This mental readiness allows us to place our hope fully in God’s grace / mercy and face difficulties with assurance. Note how these things are derived from the Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
