Romans 12:11
יא שִׁקְדוּ וְאַל תִּתְעַצְּלוּ. הֱיוּ נִלְהֲבֵי רוּחַ וְשָׁרְתוּ אֶת הָאָדוֹן.

Romans 12:11
12:11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; (KJV)

Here Paul teaches us to “Be Not Slothful in zeal” (Romans 12:11). In the Tanakh and the Torah, there are passages that convey a similar message of diligence and fervor in one’s duties. For example, in Proverbs 6:6-8 we are encouraged to be diligent and hard working, using the ant as an example of industriousness. In Exodus 18:21 we are instructed to look for diligent and trustworthy individuals for leadership roles. In Deuteronomy 6:5 we are also instructed to be wholehearted in our devotion in serving God. These passages from the Torah parallel the message in Romans 12:11 by encouraging diligence, fervor, and wholehearted devotion in one’s work and service to God. This is how Paul was teaching Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
