Hebrews 13:2

Hebrews 13:2
13:2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it. (NASB)

The author of Hebrews 13:2 states Be Not Forgetful of strangers. There are several passages in the Torah that emphasize the importance of being hospitable and kind to strangers. For example, in Genesis 18:1-8 Abraham welcomes three strangers and provides them with food and rest. This act of hospitality is later revealed to be an encounter with the Lord and two angels. Exodus 22:21 states, “Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” This verse emphasizes the importance of treating strangers with kindness and respect. Leviticus 19:33-34 states, “And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him. But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.” This passage highlights the command to love and treat strangers as one of their own. Numbers 15:15-16 and Deuteronomy 10:18-19 speak to loving your neighbor and underscores God’s care for strangers and the command for the Israelites to do the same. Note how this demonstrates that the Torah has not passed away!
