1 Peter 1:15-16

1 Peter 1:15–16
1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (KJV)

The concept to be Holy in conversation (1 Peter 1:15-16) is found in the way in which God communicates with the prophets and the people of Israel. For instance, in Exodus 19:6, God says to the Israelites, “You will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” This implies a call to holiness in their conversations and interactions with each other, with God, and with the nations. Jewish tradition also emphasizes the importance of respectful and meaningful conversation such as in the concept of “lashon hara” (evil speech) which teaches about the power of words and the importance of using them wisely and kindly. This aligns with the idea of holy conversation, where words are used to build up rather than tear down. Note how Jewish this concept is of holy conversation, this is how James taught Torah, the Torah has not passed away!
