Ephesians 5:1
א וּבְכֵן לְכוּ בְּדַרְכֵי אֱלֹהִים כְּבָנִים אֲהוּבִים

Ephesians 5:1
5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; (KJV)

There are several passages in the Torah that align with the idea of being followers of God, as Paul commands according to Ephesians 5:1. One of the most explicit commands to follow God is found in Deuteronomy 13:4, where it is written, “It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.” This verse emphasizes the importance of following God’s commands and maintaining a close relationship with Him. Another example can be found in Leviticus 19:2, God commands the Israelites, “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.’” This command to be holy, like God, can be seen as a call to follow God’s example which is reiterated in the NT. (1 Peter 1:15-16) These passages from the Torah underscore the importance of following God and striving to live according to His commands, which aligns with Paul’s exhortation in Ephesians 5:1 to “be imitators of God, as beloved children.” The idea is that as believers, we should look to God as our ultimate example and strive to live in a way that reflects His character and values. The Torah has not passed away!
