1 Peter 3:8

1 Peter 3:8
3:8 To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; (NASB)

The concept of being courteous expressed in 1 Peter 3:8 is taught in the Torah as a fundamental value. The Hebrew term for this isדֶּרֶךְ אֶרֶץ (Derech Eretz), which literally translates to “the way of the land” and is often used to refer to good manners and courtesy. An example from the Torah itself comes from the Book of Leviticus (Vayikra). The Midrash Vayikra Raba explains that God called to Moses before speaking to him, teaching the Jewish nation that having proper courtesy and respect are prerequisites to Torah scholarship. These things illustrate that the Torah places a high value on courtesy, similar to the teachings in 1 Peter 3:8. This is how Peter was teaching Torah, the Torah has not passed away.
