Hebrews 13:5

Hebrews 13:5
13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (KJV)

The concept of being content with what one has (Hebrews 13:5) is a universal theme that can also be found in the Torah. While it might not be explicitly stated in the same way as in Hebrews 13:5, there are several passages and teachings in the Torah that convey a similar message. For example, in the command against coveting what belongs to others (Exodus 20:17). This can be interpreted as an encouragement to be content with what one has. In Deuteronomy 8:18, “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth,” this also reminds us that everything we have ultimately comes from God, which can lead to a sense of contentment. Note also the commands which promote social justice and equality, such as the laws regarding the Sabbatical year and the Jubilee year (Leviticus 25). These laws helped to prevent extreme wealth inequality and encouraged a sense of contentment and gratitude within the community. Note this concept to “be content with what you have” is a Torah based principle. This is how the author of Hebrews taught Torah; the Torah has not passed away!
