1 Corinthians 11:1
Philippians 3:17
1 Corinthians 11:1
11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. (KJV)
Philippians 3:17
3:17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (KJV)
There are parallels in the Torah that align with the idea of following Paul because he followed Christ. This is found in the concept of following a righteous person, as suggested in 1 Corinthians 11:1 and Philippians 3:17. One of the most notable examples is found in Deuteronomy 13:4, which states, “It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.” While this verse specifically refers to following God, the principle of following a righteous path, as exemplified by God’s commands, is clear. Another example can be found in Numbers 27:12-23, Moses, knowing that he will not enter the Promised Land, asks God to appoint a leader over the community so “The LORD’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.” Joshua is then appointed as Moses’ successor, and the people are commanded to follow him. These passages from the Torah underscore the importance of following a righteous leader, which aligns with Paul’s exhortation in 1 Corinthians 11:1. The Torah has not passed away!
