Bits of Torah Truths – The Torah on Death and the Grave in the NT – Episode 97

1 Corinthians 15:55

1 Corinthians 15:55
15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (KJV)

Hosea 13:14
13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: Repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. (KJV)

We note how the 1 Corinthians 15:55 quotes from Hosea 13:14 both of which give Torah based concepts on death and the grave. The Torah describes death as the end of life, when the soul departs from the body and returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7). The Torah also uses terms such as Sheol, pit, chasm, and oblivion to refer to the state or location of the dead. These terms become more developed with the passage of time, however this does demonstrate that the Torah has not passed away!
