Hebrews 7:21
Hebrews 7:21
21 (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him, “The Lord has sworn And will not change His mind, ‘Thou art a priest forever’”); (NASB)
Psalm 110:4
4 The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever After the order of Melchizedek. (KJV)
Melchisedec was a mysterious figure who was both a king and a priest of God. In Genesis 14 he met Abraham after he had rescued Lot from the kings. The author of Psalms 110:4 wrote that he had sworn to make the Messiah a priest forever in the order of Melchisedec. The author of Hebrews was using this reference to the Torah to prove how Yeshua was a priest forever, and how he was superior to the earthly priesthood since he was a priest in the eternal sanctuary in heaven.
