1 Peter 2:8
1 Peter 2:8
2:8 and, “A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE”; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. (NASB)
Isaiah 8:14
8:14 “Then He shall become a sanctuary; But to both the houses of Israel, a stone to strike and a rock to stumble over, And a snare and a trap for the inhabitants of Jerusalem. (NASB)
Do you see what this verse 1 Peter 2:8 suggests? This verse is used in reference to the Messiah, and those who stumble because of Yeshua do so because they are disobedient to the Word of God. The term “Mashiach” (Messiah) refers specifically to a future Jewish king from the Davidic line. This anointed figure is expected to save the Jewish nation and bring about redemption. The issue was that Yeshua came in a way that the Jewish leadership didn’t expect Peter quotes Isaiah 8:14 to describe the outcome of this and Peter says their lack of faith is due to their disobedience to God’s word (His instruction / Torah)!
