Bits of Torah Truths – Paul has Torah Perspective on the Poor in 2 Cor. 9:9 – Episode 105
2 Corinthians 9:9
Deuteronomy 24:19
2 Corinthians 9:9
9 as it is written, “He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His righteousness abides forever.” (NASB)
Devarim / Deuteronomy 24:19
19 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. (KJV)
Here in 2 Corinthians 9:9 Paul touches on Deuteronomy 24:19 and Psalm 112:9 on the graciousness of God to the poor. This text demonstrates how the Torah and the Tanakh are not irrelevant for understanding the NT text. In fact, the commands regarding the poor are still valid for us today. The Torah has not passed away.
