Revelation 22:14
Revelation 22:14
22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. (KJV)
Here, Revelation 22:14 speaks to the blessedness of those who follow God’s commandments, which can be interpreted as keeping the Torah. We note that keeping the Torah is an outcome of our faith in the God of Israel and His Messiah! This by no means is a proof text for earning our right to the Etz Chaim (tree of life). However, keeping God’s Torah causes us to walk in His Righteous and Holy ways, turning from sin, and walking according to the Spirit. In Jewish tradition, the Torah is likened to the Etz Chaim for those who hold fast to it, offering wisdom, guidance, and spiritual nourishment. It represents the revelation of God in the world, and engaging with the Torah is seen as engaging with God Himself. This is why in the NT text, the book of Revelation speaks of keeping Torah, which is about embracing a way of life that aligns with God’s will, leading to a connection with the God of Israel and His Messiah. Access to the Etz Chaim in heaven is purely a gift of God! source of life. Note however the NT is teaching a Torah concept on the commands of God. The Torah has not passed away!
