Carrying on the Sabbath (John 5:8-11)
ה;ח אָמַר לוֹ יֵשׁוּעַ׃ ״קוּם, קַח אֶת מִשְׁכָּבְךָ וְהִתְהַלֵּךְ.״ ט מִיָּד נִרְפָּא, לָקַח אֶת מִשְׁכָּבוֹ וְהִתְהַלֵּךְ. אוֹתוֹ יוֹם הָיָה יוֹם שַׁבָּת. י אָמְרוּ רָאשֵׁי הַיְּהוּדִים לָאִישׁ שֶׁנִּרְפָּא׃ ״שַׁבָּת הַיּוֹם; אָסוּר לְךָ לָשֵׂאת אֶת מִשְׁכָּבְךָ.״ (ירמיהו יז׳ כא׳–כב׳) יא הֵשִׁיב לָהֶם׃ ״זֶה שֶׁרִפֵּא אוֹתִי, הוּא אָמַר לִי, ׳קַח אֶת מִשְׁכָּבְךָ וְהִתְהַלֵּךְ׳.״
When Yeshua told the man to pick his mat up and carry it on the Shabbat He was not denouncing the Rabbinical authority or the Oral Torah, or even the Torah itself. He was functioning in accordance with the Rabbinical authority and the Oral Torah which fall under the laws of Eruv which are part of the 7 rabbinic laws by which the issue at hand proves that Yeshua was in accordance with these laws, the rabbinical laws telling the man to pick up his mat and go.
